KW-08 St Mary’s Church

St Mary’s Parish Church, built on the eve of the First World War, has been at the centre of life in Kirkintilloch for over 100 years and has stood for stability in an ever-changing world. This majestic building of red sandstone was built to the highest standards and decorated by highly skilled carpenters and stone masons. Their skill can be seen in the many wood and stone carvings inside the church. Combined with the fine collection of stained glass windows, this makes it a building well worth visiting. Inside is found a memorial window dedicated in 1923 to the fallen of the First World War and the book of remembrance where all those townspeople killed in the war are named. This building is of historic importance and is open for visitors on the first Wednesday of each month or otherwise by arrangement by telephoning the church office on 0141 775 1166.
