Kirkintilloch & Waterside Trail
Route section 1 – Kirkintilloch to Waterside
Begin at Kirkintilloch Town Hall. Travel west along Union Street, turn left on Cowgate towards the Library. Return down Cowgate passing through the town centre. The trail passes St. Mary’s Church and turns eastward before the bridge onto the canal tow path.
Travel for 300m along the north canal bank, take a footpath on the left which emerges on Canal Street. Passing Caurnie Soaperie, the route eventually joining Peter D. Stirling Road and leads back towards the canal.Travel over the footbridge crossing the Luggie Water & under the aqueduct. Track the river, past playing fields & skate park. Take a left to begin the Waterside route section.
Route section 2 – Waterside to Kirkintilloch
Continue on this path eastward, crossing a footbridge to follow the south bank of Luggie Water. At Waterside Road the route crosses the road and continues along the waters edge. The trail then crosses a small bridge over the Bothlin Burn and turns left then immediately right to join Market Road. Heading south follow Market Road to the roundabout then turn left onto Old Duntiblae Road. Follow this road for 400m to cross the bridge over Luggie Water. After visiting the site of the Conscription School the route turn back upon itself passing the small community garden and then Archie’s shop.
Travel back to Kirkintilloch via Old Duntiblae Road passing Waterside Miners & through the roundabout at Market Road. Continue straight on Calfmuir Road taking second turn on the right, heading onto a woodland footpath. Cross Lapwing Avenue and enter the woodland again, taking a right at the next footpath junction towards Bothlin Burn were a small bridge can be found at the bottom of the hill.
On reaching the Old Aisle Cemetery, travel through onto Loch Road & then Industry Street. Traverse Townhead back along High Street returning to the Town Hall.
