About Trails and Tales
Trails + Tales was a large-scale arts and heritage engagement project, connecting with local communities right across East Dunbartonshire. Working together with Artists, Museums, Archives and Local Studies Collections, the long term programme shaped the development of a series of local walking trails and specially commissioned site specific artworks across 11 towns and villages. From 2014 a team of artists worked to engage with communities across the region, building relations and laying the groundwork for the commissioning of 13 artists commissioned to realise new publicly sited works. While developed from wide-ranging community driven concerns, artwork briefs were purposefully kept as open as possible, offering artists freedom to shape and shift ideas. An evaluative film of the project realised by Film-maker Helen Ohman working with Fiona Dean on content and interview direction, tells the story of T+T from its beginnings through to reflections on its challenges, future potential and impact on EDLC’s work.
The programme would not have been possible without the support of our many community partners, individuals and groups as well as staff of East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture Trust and East Dunbartonshire Council. We are grateful to everyone who worked with us and in particular all of those participating and volunteering on our many projects, workshops, walks and events over the years. This includes East Dunbartonshire’s Local Heritage and History Groups, Community Councils, Community Leaders and Advocates across our 11 Towns and villages who offered invaluable support advice knowledge and assistance to Trails + Tales artists and team through all stages of development.

Trails and Tales is an East Dunbartonshire Leisure and Culture (EDLC) Trust Programme and is kindly supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Creative Scotland and East Dunbartonshire Council. Trails and Tales is managed by the Cultural Coordinator for EDLC.
