Westerton & Bearsden

Route section 1 – Westerton to Bearsden:
Start at Westerton Railway Station and turn left up Maxwell Avenue travelling north. Opposite the carpark for Westerton Library, take the footpath leading west uphill towards Westerton Primary School, emerging at the Westerton Parish Church and taking Westfield Crescent towards Cairnhill Woods, where a loop can be walked before heading back to the main trail.
Returning to travel north on Maxwell Avenue, the trail passes significant listed arts and crafts housing, part of Westerton Garden Suburb. At the top of the hill turn right along Canniesburn Road, then take the second road on your left, Rubislaw Drive, to pass St Germain’s Loch. At the junction with Pendicle Road turn right, the right again onto Station Road. Continue on to pass Bearsden Station.
Route section 2 – Bearsden:
From Bearsden Railway Station, the route turns left onto Drymen Road to Bearsden Cross passing the war memorial and the Roman Road. Cross the road after the Library and Community Hub, then take the second right onto Manse Road. The route takes a sharp left off of Manse Road heading up Gartconnell Road, emerging on North Grange Road then taking a right towards Kilmardinny Loch.
Following the south edge of Kilmardinny Loch to join Kilmardinny Avenue via a small car park and head sharply to the right heading uphill towards Kilmardinny House. The trail continues south down Kilmardinny Avenue taking a sharp right onto Manse Road, travelling on this road for a short distance before turning left onto Grange Road.
When Grange Road meets Roman Road, take a right and travel along this road, taking in views of the Roman Baths and Barracks Ruins before heading back towards Bearsden town centre and to the railway station.
Connecting route – Bearsden to Milngavie
The connecting route to Milngavie is suggested along South Mains Road as the most direct route to join off-road paths again at Lennox Park and along the Allander Water path towards Gavin’s Mill, one of the most prominent heritage sites in Milngavie.
