Trails
Milngavie
The Milngavie trail begins at Gavin’s Mill if joined from the connecting route, or alternatively from the railway station/Lillie Art Gallery Trail Hub if the trail is walked separately to the Bearsden section.
From here the trail goes through Milngavie town centre and joins the West Highland Way, following the old railway line past Milngavie Library to take the next left at the track junction. Following the Allander Water for 500m passing the bridge and continuing to the Y-junction, take the fork to the right.
The route veers sharply uphill and quickly leaves the woodland landscape behind emerging onto a moorland with open views towards the west and south for many miles around. At the next T-junction turn left to follow the track over the hill to the north then east to emerge at Mugdock Road.
Alternatively, turn right at the T-junction to join Drumclog Avenue thencross Mugdock Road to join the path tracing the edge of Mugdock Reservoir.
The trail route goes left along the west side of Mugdock reservoir and continues in a clockwise direction to loops around the between the two reservoirs.
The route returns down the reservoir access road onto Mugdock Road to return to Milngavie. Taking the second right onto Tannoch Drive and follow round to right, then right again onto Buchanan Street. The route then continues downhill at Buchanan Street, from where a view of the water tower is evident from the junction with Moor Road. The Lillie Art Gallery is located at the bottom of Buchanan Street on Station Road, next to the Town Hall and from here the trail route can be followed back to the railway station.
