TO-03 Torrance Victoria Bowling Club

Lanarkshire Sheet I.NE Publication date: 1899 Date revised: 1896

The Club was incorporated in June 1887, after a meeting held in the Schoolroom, to which sixteen gentlemen attended. Chaired by Mr. William Robb the Schoolmaster, it was agreed that Mr Charles King, who had gifted the ground for the proposed green for the benefit of the people of Torrance, be appointed the first Honorary President.
By September of 1887 subscriptions had reached thirty-seven pounds and seven shillings, and a playing surface was constructed, at a cost of seventy pounds.
We now cater for ladies and gents of all ages, and boys and girls from ten years of age up, who all play many internal and external competitions throughout the season, not forgetting our proud record of Club members qualifying for the National Finals at Ayr over the years.
The Club is also suitable as a venue for parties, weddings, and meetings, and is being used as such more and more today.
