MG-06 Site of Former Flexible Ducting Factory

Flexible Ducting had one of the largest factories in Milngavie. Registered as a company in 1952 it was based in the Cloberfield industrial estate, closing in 2009.
The factory produced hoses for heating and ventilation including air conditioning in ships, hospitals and hotels and hair driers, car engines and vacuum cleaners.
The vacuum cleaner makes they supplied included Hoover, Electrolux, Numatic (Henry), Bosch, Siemens and Miele. Flexible Ducting’s innovative developments included a vacuum hose that allowed it to stretch to the top of most stairs and a hose for breathing apparatus used by the fire service.
The company was family orientated and emphasised staff wellbeing. Staff had their own Social Club and a portion of monthly wages went towards funding the club. They held raffles, fundraised to hold events for children and held sporting activities including bowling, golfing and angling. Long term employees were known as ‘flexi-bloods’.
