KW-07 Gateway Marker - Catherine Street
This artwork was created by sculptor Marion Smith, whose practice centres on creating site-specific commissions that embody a considered understanding of their context.
Features a boar and a tree inspired by imagery from a Roman marker stone found at Eastermains, Kirkintilloch, on display in the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow. The wild boar was the emblem of the twentieth legion who built a section of the Antonine Wall. The boar and tree are also often found together in Celtic art and coinage.
