LX-12 Campsie Hills

The Campsie Hills lie approximately 10 miles north of Glasgow. The Campsie’s, as they are referred to locally, are a range of hills popular with hillwalkers. There is evidence, due to erosion over the years, of multiple lava flows that date back to the Carboniferous period over 300 million years ago. The highest point in the range is Earl’s Seat, 578 metres high. The Crow Road winds through the hills from Lennoxtown to Fintry and Killearn. At the point where the road meets the Campsie Rise you find Jamie Wrights Well. The hills are rocky in places but mainly gentle and rolling.
