Barraston Farm was latterly a kennels and cattery known as Oscar’s Country Club – well known to locals for the llamas grazing in the fields. Prior to this it was operated as a working farm by its previous owners.
The original quarry at Barraston is now flooded and is an area of natural beauty. It was previously a working quarry and people can remember McFarlane’s lorries trundling up and down to the quarry. Bricks were made from the clay extracted from the quarry. Older maps suggest that limestone and coal was extracted here as well as fire clay.
