Watch House Apertures
Toby Paterson, Dug Macleod and Simon Whatley worked as a creative team to create this work for Cadder Church. It takes as its inspiration the pioneering glass work of East Dunbartonshire born artist Sadie McLellan whose work throughout the second half of the 20th Century ranges from the traditional to the experimental. McLellan’s more orthodox stained glass work can be found in churches across Scotland, including Glasgow Cathedral and Cadder Parish Church itself. This new artwork strikes a deliberate and exciting contrast with its heritage site by making reference to the innovative concrete and glass “Dalle de Verre” process she employed in 1965 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Cumbernauld (Gillespie, Kidd & Coia Architects). The team worked with specialists in stained glass and concrete, Keny Drew and Nicholas Denney to allow the dalles de verre to be re-created.
