On 2nd December 2021 we had a fascinating chat at the Barony Chambers with a group of locals with personal connections to the foundry industry.

Over a cup of tea and a biscuit or two, we learnt what it was like to be employed by a foundry, the memory of the bell at the end of the day, how a finished product was tested to check it had been cast correctly and how a prepacked line of clay pipes could keep the workers going without taking a break!

We also took a look at some lovely patterns, tools, photographs and a large printing plate from the foundry collection.

We thoroughly enjoyed hearing the stories, sharing knowledge and taking the opportunity to ask questions.

The full conversation was recorded so that we can keep it and share it with you – we’ll be sure to publish it soon!

In the meantime why not take a look at our social media posts for #ironworkthursday and hear some of the clips?
