Meet Betty, one of our unofficial Foundry Collection Project team members!

Here she is demonstrating the skill involved in pattern making.

A pattern is used for creating a mould into which molten metal is poured. This pattern has been hand carved in wood, and creates a wonderfully realistic dog head shape in a moulding box. It may have been used multiple times to create cast iron dog heads.

There’s plenty of research to be done on the Foundry Collection here at the Auld Kirk Museum, and we’d love to find out who commissioned this and what or where it was designed for!
