On reading through the entries one item really jumped out for me. A pair of boots carved from coal. These inveigled their way into my brain and started making connections all of their own. To me the boots obliquely and tantalising referenced the mining industry which had been incredibly important to East Dunbartonshire. The added attraction for me was that this industry was within living memory. The boots really excited me, in my head here was an object that had a strong visual currency, were curious and ambiguous in form, rich in personal story and redolent in history. What more could I ask for! This was my starting point.
