Campsie Memorial Hall was the venue for our 6th Trails and Tales Women’s History event, where participants were asked to help add to our growing bank of ideas about women from across East Dunbartonshire – but especially from Lennoxtown and Milton of Campsie – who they felt had a story and achievement that deserved to be remembered and recorded. As with past events, we had a great turn out and lots of new additions to the knowledge being built up about some remarkable women from East Dunbartonshire. More and more connections across different communities are emerging such as the Red Tub tea rooms or Inn – this appears in the wonderful Torrance Miss Pirie log books as a favourite stop off on hikes, and appeared in Lenzie women’s history event under the names of the Misses Kincaid and here at Lennxotown, with Mrs Ina Mckee; it’s been great to think of these locations having meaning in different ways across various generations. Melanie Brickley who ran the Aldessan gallery for many years brought along a wonderful array of photographs from her time there, all adding to the growing community generated heritage material that Trails and Tales hopes to make more visible and share more widely.
