A timeline of the founding of Trails & Tales:

September, 1987 Trails and Tales of Boomtown, USA formed
March, 1988 First tour for invited guests
April, 1988 First public tour
Fall, 1988 Dugout recreated
Began to acquire Burkburnett MKT Depot from Wichita Falls Heritage Society
1989 Received 501c3 non-profit status
Billboards erected along I-44
Hawkins House opened for tours
Obtained title to MKT depot
Introductory video was produced
Received Hardin Foundation grant
Left sponsorship of Chamber of Commerce
Became "Burkburnett Trails and Tales, Inc." by adoption of By-Laws and election of Board of Directors
1990 Moved to larger location, 218 E. Third; plans underway to relocate in MKT Depot
Purchased lot (near its' original site) for depot
Video was shown on 7' x 7' screen with souvenirs for sale
Depot was moved to permanent address, 102 W. Third
Burkburnett ISD Building Trades classes restored depot, constructed a platform with wheel chair ramp and still maintain the site today
